If the fronds of your queen palms look stunted or frizzled, your queen palms have a fungal infection commonly called 'Frizzle Top'. This disease is spread by rain, insects and people that trim your trees and don't sterilize their tools properly.
A healthy tree that has all the micro nutrients it needs can fight off this infection.

Unlike most other palm trees, the queen palm mainly uses manganese in large amounts as an enzyme-activator to fight off diseases. The reason queen palms are susceptible to fungal infection is usually because there isn't enough manganese available for the new frowns as they develop.
By regularly introducing manganese into the root system in the correct amounts (usually 12% or more), the new frowns will be more resistant to fungal infections.

We Treat Queen Palms with tree injectors high in manganese this gets the micro nutrients directly into the tree. This will get the manganese and other micro nutrients to the fawns quicker.

Sometime In the summer of 2016 a rain that fell in Maricopa County Arizona. Had some unusual effects on certain trees in the valley. I know this because of the sudden increase in calls I received for certain types of tree problems.

First I received a flood of calls on brazilin pepper trees with sporadic dying leaves, something which hardly ever happens, this was matched by calls for grapefruit trees with dying leaves, something that does happen after a rain every two to three years.

Also I received a slew of calls for ash trees with dying branches, that couldn't be totally explained by insect damage. The clincher however was that I observed that everywhere this occurred at least 50% of the queen palms had their new shoot destroyed. This new shoot would have created the top frown for the season, and if a Queen Palm goes for a year or two without growing a top, it is in danger of dying.

I suspect that people will start noticing the damage done to the Queen Palms in the spring of 2017 and beyond, If you're one of those people here's what you should know.

Queen Palms need lots of manganese to fight disease, and grow strong fronds. if a Queen Palm has enough manganese its chances of fighting a disease are greatly improved, and the frond is much less likely to brake in strong winds. If it is manganese deficient it is more susceptible to fungus, and other diseases.

That's why we inject a special liquid fertilizer, high in manganese, directly into the Queen Palms. It is absolutely the fastest way to get the manganese to the tops, which is critical for the correct development of the new fronds.

Microbes in the Sky How They Affect the Rain and the Trees

In this video, I talk about a recent discovery that NASA made about the microbes that live in the upper layers of the atmosphere. These microbes are called pathogens, and they are tiny organisms that can cause diseases in plants and animals. I explain how these microbes travel around the world, how they affect the formation and properties of raindrops, and how they might cause new and unknown diseases in trees and other plants. I also share my perspective as a tree doctor, and why we need more research and monitoring to understand and protect our forests and ecosystems.

After seeing the tree in the next video I went home and reviewed everything I thought I knew about termites, just to be sure something hadn’t changed recently. It hadn’t however it probably will at some time in the future, if the Formosan termite gets to Arizona.

The following was copied from the Orkin website at
 http://www.termitecontrol.net/do-termites-eat-trees.html

Do Termites Eat Trees?

Some consumers with trees in their yards notice tree colonies feeding on their trees and wonder how that could be. The popular conception is that termites do not eat trees, but seeing is believing for a lot of tree owners. A more thorough explanation than just a yes or no answer is really needed to address this question in an intelligent way.

Termites Prefer Dead Wood

While termites can sometimes be spotted in trees, they tend to prefer dead wood. When they are in trees, they are usually feeding on the dead cellulose found in the trees. They normally will not eat the wood from a live tree. If you spot termites feeding in a tree, it is probably a sign of a tree health problem. When notice something like this, get a qualified tree doctor to your home to take a look and see what is wrong with the tree. Termites often take advantage of and can even precipitate a tree’s decline if it is diseased.

Termites Do Not Kill Trees

Although termites are known to feed on diseased or dead trees and to eat the cellulose off of trees, they are not known to kill otherwise healthy trees. Their visible presence on dead or dying trees does not indicate a causal relationship with their presence leading to the trees’ dysfunction. If anything, that relationship goes the other way.
Termites are highly unlikely to ever be spotted on otherwise healthy trees unless no other more preferable food supply is readily available. So spotting termites in a tree is overwhelming evidence that the tree already had major troubles to begin with. It is impossible to say that a termite has never eaten live wood, but their diet overwhelmingly consists of dead wood rather than live wood.

However that may soon change if the Formosan termites ever make it to Arizona.

Formosan termites have not been identified in Arizona yet. The closest confirmed Formosan termite infestations have taken place in southern California.

Formosan termites are the most destructive termite species in the U.S., as they form the largest colonies of any species. These colonies can contain millions of termites and can cause extensive damage in relatively short periods of time. In ideal conditions like those found in Hawaii, experts estimate they can cause major structural damage to a home in only six months.

Formosan termite damage can be found in many places, from homes, buildings and boats to crops, dead trees and live trees. Formosan termites also can infest wooden railroad timbers and are thought to spread through the transport of recycled railroad timbers often used in landscaping. Pest control experts recommend examining wood for signs of termites before using it in home or garden projects
